My author visits at an elementary school typically consist of either a classroom visit or a school assembly in which I talk to the children about the various steps involved with writing and publishing a book as I show them a PowerPoint presentation (approx. 20 minutes) that guides the students through this creative process—from the idea stage to the actual publication.
Being a former middle school teacher, I know the struggles teachers encounter when encouraging students to write, particularly when it comes to the rewriting/editing process. As a result, I especially focus on this aspect of the writing process and convey its importance in a way that makes a lasting impact on the students. I have gotten a tremendous amount of positive feedback (from both teachers and students alike) regarding this presentation. In fact, it has inspired many students and teachers to want to get their own works published. This presentation is usually followed by a Q&A time in which students are allowed to ask me any questions that I may not have answered in the presentation.
In addition to the visit, I do request that parents are made aware of my visit and given an opportunity to purchase a personalized book for their child. Approximately two weeks prior to my visit date, I provide a flier with a book order form for the school to send home with each student. For each form that is returned with payment by the due date (usually a couple of days before my scheduled author visit), I will provide a signed and dated copy of the book along with a personalized message addressed to the child. For my fee for the visit, I provide a sliding scale based upon the number of books pre-sold before the scheduled author visit date. Most schools sell enough books to earn a free visit (or close to it).
If you have any questions about my fee for an author visit or would like to book an author visit/presentation at your school, please call me at (860) 412-0304 or email me at info@MathADDventures.com.

I will be a guest on the second half (approx. 9:35 AM) of Wayne G. Barber's radio show, The Author's Hour on WNRI (1380 AM or 99.9 FM ), which takes a look at the author behind the book. Tune in!
Michelle's author visit consists of much more than just signing books for students. She presents an engaging and informative PowerPoint presentation on the writing process. I enjoyed the presentation so much that I had Michelle come back the following year for a private classroom visit/presentation for my fourth graders. I especially like the way she presents and reinforces the editing process, which is something that many teachers struggle to get their students to understand and comply with. Michelle really conveys the importance of the draft and rewriting/editing process in a fun and visual way to drive home this message to the students. I highly recommend Michelle for an author's visit to your school. Both students and teachers will thank you!
